'74-Steelers 37, '74-Browns 10

The Steelers are a franchise in flux. They were originally drafted by Pete Katsafanas, who "punked out" by promising to send us a money order to buy SAT for him, then they were transferred to Kevin Cain who never could find a moment of time to play a game. Week 1 saw me (Marc) run them into the ground as a last minute sub coach. Well the Steelers need not worry anymore. Veteran HC Stu Geller has returned from his long trip of the Far East to take over the Steelers. For those of you who don't already know Stu, let me introduce him to you. Stu Geller is originally from the East Coast, but grew up in SoCal and went to school at ASU (he is a big SC fan).

Stu can coach the seams off an NFL "duke". His first game out of the box was vs his old old rival Bill Keller. These two have been known to have had some great 1 score/down to the last play games. Interestingly they are both coaching Pittsburgh and Cleveland just like in our 1958 league 3 years ago.

This game started out with the Browns looking like they were going to give Pittsburgh all they could handle. The first quarter ended with the Browns up 10-7. Unfortunately for Bill and his Browns they would not score the rest of the game and Pittsburgh would not stop.

The Steelers ammased over 260 yards on the ground spread out amongst 7 carries in the absence of star fullback Franco Harris, who has been injured since training camp. As great as they were on the ground the Steelers also dominated the air. Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam was 10-15-187-3TD. His strong right arm and fleet feet guided the Steeler offense downfield regularly. Gilliam's strong performance has relegated 1969 #1 draft pick Terry Bradshaw to a mop up role. Bradshaw was supposed to be the "face of the franchise", when he was picked #1 overall 5 years prior. The unhearalded Gilliam just wins. His favorite receiver on the day was rookie John Stallworth who caught 5 passes for 139 yards and 2 TD's. Pittsburgh has a great corps of young receivers. When they aren't catching passes they are running back punts for TD's. Lynn Swann, Stallworth's counterpart, had a 84 yard return for a TD in the 4th quarter to put the final exclamation point on the day's scoring.

Bill Keller's wish was to get Stu Geller back in the CFL fold and reknew their kindered rivalry. Sometimes we have to be careful, we just might get what we wish for !!!
