CFL 1970-1974 Draft Complete !!!

LEAGUE OFFICE (AP)- The draft was supposed to start up at noon time, but technical difficulties (I had to watch my kids, while my wife did a yard sale).
Well around 6pm EST we got started and the picks just flew by. I few surprise on who got what team, but all in all the teams expected to be picked were.

Here are the results:

*1 George Bserani 1973 LA Rams

*2 Jay Schneider 1974 OAK Raiders

*3 Marc Weiss 1973 MIA Dolphins

*4 Pete Katsafanas 1974 PIT Steelers

5 Marvin Sik 1973 MIN Vikings

6 Howie Fortel 1971 DAL Cowboys

7 Andy Weinrib 1970 SF 49ers

8 Ed Mikhli 1970 BAL Colts

9 Bill Keller 1972 WAS Redskins

10 Bob Kalec 1970 DET Lions

11 Paul Blocher 1971 KC Chiefs

12 Kevin Cain 1973 CIN Bengals

George Bserani, a die hard Rams fans use the first pick in the draft to choose his favorite team. The 1973 Rams were one of those teams that on paper should have gone all the way, or at least made it to the Super Bowl. Lawrence McCutcheon virtually ran the ball at will that year and Merlin Olsen led a rock solid if not spectacular defense.

Coach Jay Schneider followed by taking the 1974 Oakland Raiders. Can Jay do with this team, what John Madden couldn't do in real life...win the big one ? The Raider had no weakness, except the inability to win the big game. This was supposed to be their year after knocking of the 2 time Super Bowl champion Dolphins they fell short to the young and coming Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaking of Dolphins and Steelers, both of those teams went next. Curiously the 1973 Fish were selected, and not their perfect season 1972 team. When surveyed by Sports Illustrated Bob Keuchenberg (OG) said he felt that their 73 team was stronger than their 72 team. This remains to be seen.

Pete "the Greek" shocked no one with his selection of the 1974 Steelers. Anyone who knows Pete, knows that there is no Steeler team he would ever turn down. A few seasons back Pete coached the 1983 Steelers and helped them remain competitive even though they were outmanned.

Marvin Sik followed by selecting the 1973 Purple People Eaters. The Vikes had some fantastic teams in the early/mid 70's. Is Marvin better than Bud Grant ?

Rounding out the top 6 picks Howie Fortel nabbed the 1971 Dallas Cowboys. A lifelong Giant fan Howie is struggling with this choice of team, but decided they were the best team left in the pool to pick. He'll have lots of fun throwing to Bullet Bob Hayes and running the moody one, Duane Thomas.
